Leachate From Organic Coating Materials Used in Potable Water Distribution Systems [Project #105]

I believe this means after certain types of maintenance is done on distribution systems, users may be exposed to contaminated water. Users should check with their water supplier for confirmation and actions they should take to protect their families from drinking contaminated water. Utilities should recognize the potential impact of leaching on water quality when putting new or recoated systems in service. During the first 30 days in service, drinking water contaminants above 1 mg/L are to be expected, particularly in leachate from solvent-applied polymeric coatings. Contact with water can reduce concentrations of organics leached from these coatings faster than prolonged drying in air at the same temperature.
