An Ontario judge had damning words for a mom who secretly snapped nude photos of her own teenage daughter.
“These offences are abhorrent and disgusting and are worthy of a jail term,” said Ontario Court Justice Richard Humphrey. “It needs to be known to the public that people who involve themselves with child pornography of any form that the likelihood of incarceration is a strong possibility, even for a first offence.”
The 36-year-old Sudbury woman, who can’t be named due to a publication ban, used a hidden camera to take 251 photographs of her daughter in a six-month period between 2011 and 2012. Police also found more than 200 other child porn pictures and videos.
She pleaded guilty to two of the 12 charges she was facing: possession of child pornography, and visual recording of a person in privacy, for which she’ll get 90 days in jail and three years’ probation
Conditions of her probation include no contact with her children and no computer or Internet access, except with pre-approval from her probation officer. She’ll also face a weapons ban since the police search also uncovered an unsecured long gun with loaded magazines and ammo nearby.
She’s also barred from holding any job in “a position of trust with minors,” such as a teacher or camp counselor; she can’t attend a school, daycare or any similar spot where minors would be present, and she can’t even communicate with a minor unless also in the presence of an adult who knows about her conviction.

On top of all that, she also gets a 10-year spot on the National Sex Offender Registry.
Unlike the public, searchable version in the U.S., Canada’s registry is only accessible to police. Offenders are listed for 10 years, 20 or life, depending on the offence. They have to re-register each year, as well as any time they move or change their name.
It covers a wide range of sexual offences, including bestiality, child pornography, sexual assault, exposure, incest or acting as an accomplice to any of those acts.
